Any time a new course is created:
Find out from course designers if they intend to use AAI for enrollment and login. Ask course designers whenever they create a new course if possible, and keep in mind to ask again in August or September.
About a month before courses begin (late August, early September):
If they want to use the Invitation or Subscription method:
Set this up early, we haven't used either of these yet! See the original enroll-aai page on edutech for an overview:
http://edutech.ch/vista/enroll-aai_3methods.php
If they want to use the Direct URL method:
Create an enrollment URL as described on
http://edutech.ch/vista/enroll-aai.php
Test the URL !
Find test users
from every uni or FHS enrolling in that course.
Problem emailing long links:
Inform the course organizer that there could be a problem sending long links via email to students. They should warn students that some
email programs split the URL over several lines, so the students need to copy/paste the links (not just click on them in the email). (Hint: use texts generated from the AAI Portal for the invitation method.)
Suggest an alternative to emailing the URL:
The course organizer could create a web page that embeds the URL as a simple hypertext link. Example:
http://www.weblecture.ch/ki1/
Student intro in first course hour:
Strongly encourage course organizers to use part of the first face-to-face hour of the course to show students how to enroll in the course.
Update the Vista Entry Page:
Create a page using the main language of the institution. Find out what they call their university username and password so you can refer to the AAI login the same way. (Example: Uni Zurich calls it "Uniaccess", see here
http://athena.virtualcampus.ch/)
Steps for enabling a Vista institution to use a AAI login:
Create a resource for the institution in the AAI portal login.virtualcampus.ch
Choose
WebCT? Vista Institution Adapter.
Use an existing institution resource to see how all the fields are filled in, everything's the same except the Institution glcId. That's on the edutech Vista tech info page.
You'll need the new resource's Resource Key, looks sort of like: 39.
A2D450F7C4?
Create a login page for the institution.
Existing login pages are on the server at: www-edutech/vista/vista-loginpages/ in a folder named after the institution. A new institution needs a new folder. Copy over an existing institution's html file and make changes as needed (instructions in the html file itself). The institution's
ResourceId? is in the AAI Portal after you create the resource (login.virtualcampus.ch).
The login page html file needs to be modified for the institution - instructions are in the html file itself.
Upload the login page to the file manager in a folder named branding.
In the Learning Context Manager > Settings > Branding set the uploaded page as the Institution Entry Page.
Adding the institution to the drop down lists on edutech website
Two pages have scripts that generate the enrolllment URL:
http://edutech.ch/vista/enroll-aai.php (for enrolling students) and
http://edutech.ch/vista/aai-designers-login.php (for enrolling designers in an intro course)
The scripts use the info in the file called inst-portal-adapter-ids.php, located in www-edutech/vista/. To add a new institution, just add a new array element with that institution's info.
