Processing Assignment Submissions - Assignment Dropbox
Introduction
WebCT Help for: Assignment Dropbox, German Version, French Version.
This page provides you with a step by step instruction for the use of the Assignment Dropbox in Vista. Some further information concerning the use of the Assignment Drop Box can be found in Part 4, Chapter 8, Sect: "Assignment and Assignment Dropbox", Sub-sect: "ABOUT ASSIGNMENTS AND ASSIGNMENT DROPBOX" in the Designers and Instructors Reference, WebCT Vista 4 (pdf, 2.5 MB) p 181. Overview
The Assignment Dropbox allows your students
- to submit files online
- to keep track of who has submitted
- who has not submitted (yet)
- what grade has been assigned for his/her submission
- to download students submissions
- to send feedback to the students.
Downloading Students Submissions
In the Teach Tab in the Instructor tools select Assignment Dropbox. The Assignment Drop Box Screen opens, giving you access to 5 tabs corresponding to the status of each student's progress
- Submitted
- Not Submitted
- Graded
- Published (i.e., released to the target students)
- All (i.e., every item, no matter their status)
To download the submissions
- select all the student assignments that you want to download by clicking on the checkbox next to their "Title",
- click on the "Create Printable View"
- Above or under the list that appears select Save to File. This will zip up all of the student submissions including all attachments.
The resulting "zip" file is saved to your My Files space. For downloading go to that space in the File Manager. You can also directly click onto the file-link and than directly save to your hard drive. When you unzip the file, for each student a folder will be created by student ID with their attachments in the folder.
Assigning Grades and Returning Files
There are two ways to assign grades to submissions: within the Assignments tool or inside the Grade book. The later comes in handy, when you need to introduce a grade for a submission from outside Vista, that is, when a student sends her or his submission as a hard copy or a mail.
Note: When you change the grade inside the grade book this change will only show up in the My Grades tool and not be shown in the assignment tool.
When you select "Return graded submission to Student(s) with the following grade:" students submissions are 'sent' back to the student with your comments. The grade will only show in the students' gradebook column once the assignment has been released.
You further have the options to attach files as additional tasks.
Using the Comments Field
To send a feedback to your students use the Grader/Reviewer Comments field. Note that the formatting in this fields are not preserved which makes longer texts unpractical.
