As of August 1st, 2008, the Edutech web site will no longer be updated. Edutech was funded by the Swiss Virtual Campus programme, which ended on July 31st, 2008. Some activities will be taken over by the e-Learning Services group at the SWITCH foundation.
Domain Level Settings for athena.virtualcampus
Introduction
This page provides you with a list of settings concerning the Vista tools and administration currently in vigor at our domain. Address any questions to the edutech Vista Support.
In general a tool or function is either 'on' or 'off' (value is set to 'true' or 'false'). As an option this setting can be locked or not. If set to 'not locked' the setting can be overridden on the lower level. Each level can override the settings of above as long as it has not been locked on any level. The list below thus only represents the frame set provided by the edutech team. However Institution or Group administrators might have narrowed down the choices.
Note: To keep this list short, only attributes set to 'false', or multiple value choices are listed. This means that there are a great number of attributes currently set to 'true' that are not listed below, but that can be changed. The current configuration allows for all of these settings to be changed on lower levels. Contact your institution's administrator for any further restrictions.
Tools
All Tools are enabled! In the following tools some attributes have been set to 'false':Chat and Whiteboard Tools
The following settings can be overridden at lower levels:- Allow Teaching Assistants to view and clear chat logs: set to 'false'.
- Allow Students to view chat logs: set to 'false'.
- Allow Auditors to view chat logs: set to 'false'.
- Allow Teaching Assistants to create rooms: set to 'false'.
Course Toolbar Tools
- Labeling: set 'Image and Text', can be changed to 'Image only', or 'Text only'.
- First primary tool: set to 'Announcements', can be changed to all other tools.
- Second primary tool: set to 'Calendar', can be changed to all other tools.
- Third primary tool: set to 'Mail, can be changed to all other tools.
- Forth primary tool: set to 'My Grades', can be changed to all other tools.
Grade Book Tools
- Allow Section Instructors to add and remove Teaching Assistants: set to 'false'.
- Allow Section Instructors to add and remove Section Designers: set to 'false'.
HTML Creator
- Start the HTML Creator by default: set to 'false'.
- Allow Mail messages to be forwarded to an external e-mail address: set to 'false'.
- Maximum attachment size (KB): set to '100'.
My Computer Applet Tools
- Maximum number of files per upload: set to 10.
- Maximum number of bytes per upload: set to 50 MB
MyWebCT Tools
- My WebCT default background color: set to '145'.
- My WebCT default channel color: set to '165'.
- The channel 'External Courses' is currently set to 'not visible'.
- Default columns can be set to different values and positions.
Administration
Backup & Restore Administration
- Allow backup of sections: set to 'false'.
International Administration
- Language Locale: set to 'English (United States)'.
- Date Locale: set to 'English (United States)'
- Time Format: set to '24 hour clock
- Number Locale: set to 'German (Switzerland): 1'234.567
- Default Character Set: set to 'Western European'.
Security Administration
- Enable SSL for login page only: set to 'false'.
- Allow applets to be downloaded insecurely: set to 'false'.
User Manager Administration
- Allow anyone to create a user account: set to 'false'.
- Allow users to register themselves as a Student in a section: set to 'false'.
- Allow users to register themselves as an Auditor in a section: set to 'false'.
- Require users to change their passwords after a specified number of days. This setting applies only if WebCT is your authentication source: set to '90' days.
- Minimum length of password. This setting applies only if WebCT is your authentication source: set to 6.
