Test the downloading and uploading of different files

Introduction

Keywords: Vista, File, Download

The aim of this page is to allow you to test different file types in a course that you created.

Note: Files in Internet Explorer 7 that come with accented characters in their file name such as "à,ä,ü,è,ê, etc. can cause the file to not upload or to not be visible to the students. As such accents can also cause trouble for exports from Vista or into other tools it is generally recommended to never use them in file names. See also our Do's or don'ts HOWTOs.

First phase of testing: From a link in the course.

Test the download of a word-file (.doc) from our server

Test the download of a PDF-file (.pdf) from our server

Test the download of a PowerPoint-file (.ppt) from our server

Second phase of testing: downloading from inside Vista

A dialog should show allowing you to either open or download the file. looking something like this:

Open or download window

Depending on the settings of your browser the page might also automatically show in Vista. If neither of this happens you need to adjust the settings as indicated in the page Downloading of Files Doesn't Work.
