Unexpected behavior of forms
If you get unexpected reactions from Vista when using forms, such as changing a users name or password, this could be related to a caching issue. There is in fact a particular browser setting that autocompletes forms.
In Internet Explorer (IE)
- click on the Tools menu and select Internet Options.
- Click on the Content tab.
- At the Personal information section, click on the AutoComplete button. Next, you might see that various options are selected for AutoComplete.
- Uncheck the Forms option.
- Then click on Clear Forms.
- Click on the OK button to save changes and then the Apply button, and finally the OK button to close the Internet options window.
- Close the browser and re-open it.
In Mozilla, there is a similar setting.
- Click on the Edit menu
- Choose Preferences.
- At the list of Categories, click on the Privacy & Security section
- click on Forms.
- Uncheck the box for 'Save form data from web pages when completing forms.'
- Close the browser and re-open it.
Downloading Non-HTML Documents with IE
If you are having difficulties downloading pdf or doc files from your Vista courses (i.e. Information Bar keeps appearing) and are using Windows XP, you will need to change your Security Settings for downloads.
Steps allowing you to turn off the information bar for file downloads ( Note: This procedure allows Web sites to automatically ask you if you would like to download files and software, removing the yellow pop-up Information Bar.):
In Internet Explorer,
- click Tools and then click Internet Options.
- Click the Security tab, ensure that Internet zone is selected, and then click Custom Level.
- To turn off the Information Bar for file downloads, in the Downloads section of the list, under Automatic prompting for file downloads, click Enable.
- Click OK.
- In the Warning dialog box, click Yes.
- To close Internet Options, click OK.
