What students need to know:
- They will learn with a proven application, Vista, that is
used in many universities of the world
- The web-based material is stored on a national server that is hosted by a trusted institution: Switch
- This configuration and the chosen application represents by far the most comprehensive and powerful online teaching and learning tools in the world
- The versatility and flexibility of the platform leads to a
number of requirements concerning the browser setttings and plug-in.
- Thus the correct
functioning of the platform can be impeded by
the presence of - out-dated, brand-new or beta-versions of a browser
- over-severe fire-wall settings (especially with the chat)
- inappropriate settings of the browser (cookies need be allowed)
- An automatic browser check in the myWebCT entry point helps the users cope with this complexity
- Their teachers have rapid access to support provided by the edutech support
How students get to their course
- Make sure that you use a mainstream browser with a relative new version
- "Pop-up window" and "cookies" have to be allowed. You might
want to check now, if this is the case..
- Go to either
- http://athena.virtualcampus.ch
(bookmark the URL)
and then select your Institution
or
- the direct Link into your myWebCT (bookmark the URL) that your teacher has given you.
- Click the Login button
- Indicate the user name and password that your teacher has given you.
- During the login you will be asked
- to change the password (min. 6 characters). Please note the new password at once.
- to accept the security sheet. Select 'Always' !
- You see the myWebCT entry page where your current courses are listed.
- Click on a course or one of the other tools that are
displayed there and start enjoying your new learning tool.
If you
experience difficulties to enter your course the first
time,
before approaching your teacher,
- check the login link, the user name and password
- check that key caps are not locked on your keyboard
- activate the Browser Checker in your myWebCT and make sure
that
- you use a supported browser
- Java is activated (Find details and help)
- Java Virtual Machine (JVM) is installed (Find details and help)
- the browser allows the use of cookies (Find details and help)
- 'Pop-up window' is allowed for athena.virtualcampus.ch (Find details and help)
- find another computer (other type of computer), try your login there and compare the behavior and settings

- Verify the login informations with your teacher and eventually ask for a different password.
If
you experience difficulties to enter your course later on,
ask the system for a new password- From the Entry Page, next to Log In, click Forgot your login information?. The Login Help screen appears.
- In the text box, enter the answer exactly as you entered it when you set up the secret question and
- If you entered a correct answer, a confirmation message appears, notifying you that your login information has been sent to the e-mail address associated with your account.
- Click OK. The Entry Page appears and your login information is e-mailed to the e-mail address associated with your account.
- Retrieve your login information from the e-mail and, using your user name and the new password, log in to WebCT.
Do Not Forget to Log Out
NOTE:
Closing the Internet
access or the browser does not necessarily log you out of WebCT.
To Log out securely and to protect your private information and access to the Internet:
- click the Logout link in the myWebCT window.
or - click the Logout link on the top and right side of your content window in the Vista menu bar.
