Exporting and Importing Questions

This page provides you with a step by step instruction to the importing and exporting of questions. Exporting Questions
When you export questions, the question categories they belong to, along with their settings, and any linked files are also exported. If the categories do not already exist in the Questions Database that they are imported into, they are created. You can also export entire assessments (quizzes, surveys, and self-tests). - From the Question Database screen (to be found in the Assignment tool), from the Category View or the Question View, do the following:
- Select Question View
- Next to each question you want to export, select the check box.
Note: If you want to export questions that span multiple pages, you must adjust the number of questions listed on a single page to include all questions you want to export. - Click Export Questions. The Content Browser pop-up window appears.
Note: When you export questions, they export as a content package and are saved in a zip file. The content package includes XML files, XML schema files (.xsd files), and any image files (for example, .jpg files) used in the questions. - Navigate to the location where you want to save the zip file. For more information.
- In the Save as text box, enter a name for the zip file and click OK.
Note: We recommend you use all lowercase letters for file names. - The Export Progress screen appears, listing details of the export in progress. When the export is complete, the Export Log screen appears. The zip file is saved in the location you specified. If you are going to import the questions to another WebCT installation, you must download the zip file to your computer first.
- Click Return. The course entry screen appears.
Importing Content
You can import quizzes, surveys, self tests, and questions that were created in other WebCT courses.
Imported quizzes, surveys, and self tests are added to the Assessments tool. Imported questions are added to the Question Database tool.
After a quiz, survey, or self test is imported, you can create links to it on content folders in the Course Content tool and in learning modules. After questions are imported, you can add them to quizzes, surveys, and Self-Tests.
- Navigate to the Manage Course screen. Under Designer Tools, click Manage Course. The Manage Course screen appears.
- Click Import. The Content Browser pop-up window appears.
- Locate and select the export-zip file containing the content you want to import.
- Finish the procedure with OK. The Content Import in Progress screen appears, listing details of the import in progress.
- Come back with Return.
- The imported Questions can now be found in the Learning Modules Screen.
