For Course Designers: Using Your AAI Login

Do you want to login with your institution username and password to use Vista too?

If your institution is an 'AAI Home Organisation' then you can log in to Vista using your institution-issued login name and password.

How designers set up their AAI login to WebCT Vista

There's one special condition: you must first enroll as a student in one course with your AAI ID.

In order to use your AAI login you will have to first create your AAI user by enrolling as a student in a course. Any test course will do, you don't have to be a "real" student. Beware: you cannot be a student in the same course where you are a designer, so it is best to use a test course for this. After you've created a new user using your AAI ID, you assign your new AAI user the designer rights for the particular courses you want to log in to as a designer.

The steps:

Enroll in a test course using your AAI ID. You can use the enrollment URL generator below - it will create a new account with your AAI ID and enroll you as a student at the same time in an empty test course in your institution.
After you are enrolled in the course, log out.
Log back in as a WebCT user that has institution administrator rights. If you don't have institution administrator rights, you'll have to ask your institution administrator, or contact us.
Go to the User Manager and look up your new AAI user: search for your first or last name; the aai user id has a strange user name, like abcd1234xyxy@university.ch.
Give your AAI user the designer rights to the course you want to log in to as a designer.
Log out from your WebCT user id and log back in using the AAI login on the WebCT Vista entry page.

That should do it. You should now be able to login to WebCT Vista using the same login name and password you were given for your institution email etc.

Two importatant rules about user rights and what to do about them:

An institution administrator cannot be enrolled as a student in that institution.
A course designer cannot be enrolled as a student in the same course where she is a designer.

If you are an institution administrator and you need to login as a student in your institution (for testing), you will need 2 separate users accounts. You can only have one AAI account, so you must decide if you want to login as administrator using AAI and then use a local WebCT user account to login as a student, or vice-versa.
